Historic ceiling replacement and restoration

This project involved the careful removal and replacement of a deteriorating historic ceiling. The client had expressed concerns about its stability, prompting a detailed review and agreement the ceiling needed replacing.

During the removal process, we discovered that many of the original laths were broken or rotten, necessitating careful restoration.

Rather than opting for a modern plasterboard and multi-finish plaster approach, we chose to retain the original features by restoring the existing laths and applying a suitable lime plaster, preserving the ceiling’s historic integrity. This approach maintained the authentic character of the space and adhered to best conservation practices.

The client was delighted with this respectful and skillful restoration, which successfully returned the ceiling to its original state, blending historical accuracy with durable, quality craftsmanship.
